What is Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)?

PID is an infection of the female reproductive tract, usually caused by untreated sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as chlamydia or gonorrhea.

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)

The infection can spread from the vagina and cervix to the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. If not treated early, PID can lead to long-term complications, including:

Chronic pelvic pain

Scarring of the fallopian tubes

Ectopic pregnancy (a pregnancy outside the uterus)

Infertility
