The entire procedure is relatively quick, lasting only about 30 minutes. By using what is called the MyoSure hysteroscope, your doctor will be able to remove the abnormal tissue that is causing the heavy or painful periods.
The MyoSure procedure is made up of three simple steps:
Your doctor opens your cervix by inserting a slender camera into your uterus, allowing him or her to see inside.
Your doctor will then pass a slender wand through your vagina into your uterus. The wand gently cuts the fibroid or polyp into tiny pieces and suctions the removed tissue into the wand and out of your body.
Once the abnormal tissue growth has been completely broken down and removed from your body, then the wand is removed from your uterus. The procedure does not require a hospital stay as you are able to go home on the same day. Because you may experience mild cramping following the procedure, your doctor will most likely prescribe you a pain medication.
If you are experiencing symptoms from your fibroids or polyps such as heavy periods or infertility, then MyoSure may be recommended for you. It is also the recommended treatment option if you are planning on having children in the future.
Many women with fibroids may not have symptoms. If that’s the case for you, MyoSure may not be the best option. Your doctor may instead recommend keeping a close eye on abnormal tissue growth and continue monitoring it in the future. The moment you do start experiencing symptoms, talk to your doctor right away to further discuss treatment.
